A Clean Well Lighted Place

In the beginning Purrsia and I found shelter under the shed, the dank smell of dirt around us. And it was dark and we were often afraid. We slept curled together and it was good being together. And we promised we would be brave and be together always. 




We were young and small and knew only that we were often hungry. One day there was food. The food was good and clean and the bed beside the food soft. We ate the food and slept on the soft clean bed. 




We woke up in a place that was light and dry and warm. There were other creatures in this place. Big ones that are called dogs. And grown-up cats who were kind to us. And tall creatures on two legs called people who gave us more soft food and warm places to sit and Purrsia and I learned about snuggling with the people and being touched by them. And it is good being touched and eating the soft food and playing with the other creatures and running free and unafraid and sleeping curled up together, Purrsia and I.




Though we are still young and small Purrsia and I now know things other than hunger. We know it is good being safe and clean and always together. It is good to live with different creatures. It is good to play and run and jump and to snuggle on warm laps. And we know it will be good to do all those things, Purrsia and I and our new family, in our own clean well lighted place.
